Challenge
Our mission is critical because of the suffering inflicted by chronic wounds, the financial burden on both government and private healthcare systems, and the aging infrastructure of information technology in healthcare. Nearly 11 million people in the U.S. suffer from chronic wounds stemming from diabetes, an aging population, vascular disease, and services delivery capacity, leading to an estimated $30 billion in treatment costs.
Solution
As of January 1, 2009, over 10,000 physicians, clinicians and wound center managers across the U.S. use WoundExpert in more than 500 ambulatory outpatient wound clinics - our core market segment - improve patient care and facility performance. Over 600 facilities across the wound care continuum use WoundExpert in total. The WoundExpert software is available as a fully integratable electronic medical record (EMR) for wound centers and an outcomes tracking and risk management system for in-patient, skilled nursing, visiting, and telemedical environments.
In 2008, WoundExpert practice management and electronic medical record systems automated over 1.4 million patient encounters. Moreover, since 2001, WoundExpert users have successfully tracked nearly 750,000 healed wounds, affording the largest independent source of comprehensive chronic wound benchmarking data in the industry.
