Joint Commission Disease-Specific Care (DCS) Certification

WoundExpert's second Client Conference held in conjunction with the Clinical Symposium on Advances in Skin & Wound Care on October 28th was a rousing success. Thank you to all who participated, and a special thanks to Derek Ruvalcaba, CRT, CHT, CWCA, Manager, Wound Care & Hyperbarics, United Regional Health Care System who facilitated the session.

United Regional was the first hospital based wound center in Texas and only the third independent program in the country to be awarded Disease-Specific Care Certification for Wound Care in March 2007.

The presentation provides information with regards to the rationale, benefits, and requirements for obtaining DSC Certification in addition to the currently required Joint Commission Accreditation. The presentation also addresses how WoundExpert serves as a resource vehicle in achieving DSC Certification which includes: application of evidence-based medicine guidelines, outcomes benchmarking, and quality of care analysis. The session concludes with an explanation of WoundExpert's vital role in data quality and integrity initiatives through the provision of comprehensive and supportive documentation.
